Hello
Riley Thompson is an interdisciplinary designer from California based in Philadelphia. Her work spans textiles, spatial installation, and architectural design, with a focus on material reuse, interaction, and play. She received her BA in Architecture and Design from the University of Pennsylvania in 2025.
I approach design as a process of discovery—one that thrives on material play, layered histories, and embodied engagement. Trained in architecture and design at the University of Pennsylvania, my practice spans textiles, fiber arts, and spatial installation. I often work with found and recycled materials, drawn to the idea that fabrics hold traces of past lives—stories embedded in seams, stains, and textures. These materials are never blank; they arrive with character.
Much of my work invites physical or imaginative interaction. Whether a wearable garment, a tactile installation, or a sculptural space, I aim to create work that makes people curious—draws them in, makes them smile, moves them to engage. I’m interested in how repurposed materials can shift meanings depending on how they’re cut, stitched, or situated, and how reimagining old forms can open up space for new identities and expressions to emerge.
